I can’t remember exactly when it all began. It was likely around the time I started practicing and teaching yoga, that I became more aware of the health of the Earth and my role in it. It was also around the same time that foods I ate regularly began to loose their appeal. That’s the thing about practicing yoga, your awareness is heightened even if at first it’s more a subconscious change than a conscious decision to do so. Anyway, over the years I took baby steps such as recycling what was allowable where I live, bringing my own reusable bags to the grocery store and switching to biodegradable cleaning products.
Then I had children and how different everything looked! Around the same time my husband began working closely with Practically Green, an innovative, environmentally conscious company. Practically Green is a tool that guides you in taking steps to incorporate Earth friendly changes into your daily life. What I love about Practically Green is that it doesn’t overwhelm me or make me feel like a failure. Instead it applauds my efforts and makes me feel like a success for any change I make, no matter how small. For me not feeling overwhelmed or discouraged is the key to moving forward in wanting to make more and more changes, first for my family and then for the Earth. And that’s all I try to do. Make simple changes as they come to me or as I’m guided to do and then, to the best of my ability, go with them. It started small however with time it has become a way of life. My hope is that through Whole Life Mom we will ask our questions, share our stories and inspire and cheer one another along in this journey to a healthier and more sustainable way of life. Namaste.
